Team update

Written by Hommerts Cycling Team at 12:41 26/3-2021

After 2 season's of absence the battery is recharged and with 3,5 million dollars waiting to be spend it was time for a comeback.

Almost half of that amount we 'earned' with the sell of our homegrown superstar Jacob Wieringh(1.650.000, still the highest transfer ever to date), who's doing well at Cycling team FPS with a double win in classic Criterium La Provance, a stage win in Germany and winning CoN Delhi last season for the Netherlands. Also his best friend and also homegrown trained rider Djowie is still around to guide him. Nice to see! We wish them the best!

  How the spend the money?

That's what i was asking myself. One thing i was sure about. In the past HCT always was a team with only 10-12 riders. This time with the amount of cash available i wanted a larger team.

  Focus on?

Back to our roots. Cobbles and (hill)sprint. The first ever rider we trained was a cobbler named Sieuwerd Bouwens(52av). And in the past HCT was the most successful with sprinting. Easy choice.

  The team:

First objective: Find a sprint captain. Lot's of great riders on the forum but the prices are high. Finally we ended up with the winner of de Nederlandse Tour last season Gaetan Digenova(wildcard!). 600k but ok, he's a 226sprinter and 288 hill sprinter.

Then support and maybe even a bit cheaper second sprint captain:

  Fredis Delveris, 222tt
  Kees Craandijk, 195sprinter
  Jokhonia Mabelo 205sprinter
  Jaka Kosmac, 195 sprinter+72hills
  Phillipe Congo, 199 sprinter
  Max Schiele, 185 sprinter
  Oscar Liebrechts, 207sprinter
  Yasper Abbenbroek, 218 sprinter
  Joost Verbrugge, hill helper

Meanwhile we were also busy finding a cobbler. With the money depleting to quickly i thought maybe with some luck a new talent on the hirelist? Most of the 19-22y olds getting scouted pretty quickly so maybe try one who's a bit older. And we found from Djibouti: Oumee Elmahdi! Not a super talent but could still be nice if he has a high max. And a high max it was!!

  CL: Good
  DH: None
  HL: Small (57)
  SP: Small (52)
  FR: Average (62)
  CB: Very good (83)
  TT: Good (56)
  TQ: Average (60)

AV: 52,875! The highest max AV we ever reached with training! He still has to visit the TT center so he can reach 54,125 with 66 TT. Good for a prologue in a cobble tour!

We also hired some cobble help with Steve Butterfield, Ty Armstrong and Mikael Bergkamp but this still has to improve in the future.

The rest of the team is a mix of guys filling up the spots, a talent maxed to early and one we are still training. At this point HCT is back in the third division with the potential i think to reach the second division. From there it gets harder but it would be great to make it back to the first division one day. A nice goal to set. Lets see!

Sorry to see you taking a break once more. Looking at your team sale, you seem to end up with more than the 3,5M you invested!
